South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has just published a new website http://www.syfire.gov.uk/, which Clarity developed using the WordPress open source cms.
We have provided an exceptionally cost effective cms solution for the fire service, since WordPress is an open source product and it can be used free of charge without incurring any licence or maintenance fees. WordPress is also an exceptionally popular cms platform and it is currently used to manage 24% of all websites globally (see https://wordpress.com/.)
As a public service provider, it is important for South Yorkshire Fire to be open and transparent and to offer services in ways that are readily accessible to members of the public. The new website supports these objectives by adhering to web accessibility standards and by using a modern, fluid design that delivers a fully responsive and touch friendly user experience on smart phones and tablets.
Content editors throughout the fire service shall be able to maintain the website easily and dynamically at any time of day when new information needs to be published, as WordPress provides an exceptionally intuitive user interface, which can be accessed from the office or remotely through a secure connection using smart phones and tablet devices.
Clarity has also provided a highly flexible page layout design, which allows the fire service to deliver targeted and highly topical messaging, such as may be required to promote local fire safety initiatives (e.g. safe use of barbecues in the sunshine). In particular, the tiles on the front page can be changed easily to highlight pertinent issues and reference content throughout the site. This approach can also be used to give the site a fresh look and feel with minimal effort.
